Access to safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene remains one of RDCO’s flagship program areas across District Sanghar and District Mirpurkhas. Through partnerships with philanthropic individuals and organizations, the organization has significantly improved water security and public health in underserved rural communities.
RDCO facilitated the installation of 585 hand pumps, including 500 shallow and 85 deep hand pumps, enabling hundreds of vulnerable households to access safe drinking water. To provide sustainable and climate-resilient water solutions, the organization also installed 32 solar-powered submersible (Sumer) pumps, ensuring a reliable water supply through renewable energy.
During the 2022 flood emergency, RDCO arranged emergency water tanker deliveries to 750 households, ensuring uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for affected communities. To improve sanitation, the organization supported the construction of three household latrines for vulnerable families lacking basic sanitation facilities.
Complementing these infrastructure interventions, RDCO conducted 180 Health and Hygiene Awareness Sessions, promoting safe water handling, personal hygiene, sanitation practices, and disease prevention. These combined efforts have reduced water-related health risks, strengthened community resilience, and contributed to the achievement of SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, while improving the health and well-being of vulnerable communities across its areas of operation.
